- Homosexuality and deviant personality are the pivotal points of Tennessee Williams’ works. His works were always fraught with psychological depth whwas believed due to his being homosexual. It is believed that the formation of hsexual orientation and feminine personality were rooted in his childhood traumIn A Streetcar Named Desire, the conflict being experienced by Stella Kowalskalmost the same with the confusion being experienced by Tennessee Williams during his life. This is what makes Stella’s character as important as the other tmain characters, Blanche Dubois and Stanley Kowalski in dealing with the analysis of Williams’ psychological conflict. Therefore, this thesis also incorporates Freudian psychoanalysis. Freudian analysis assumes that the mindhas two components – conscious and unconscious. Psychoanalysis’ role in literature is to reveal important information such as the motivations and hiddenintentions which is essential for the purpose of understanding characters on a deeper level.
