This study is conducted in order to analyze the English textbook “Developing English Competencies for Senior High School (SMA/MA) Grade X” published by the government in terms of (1) the relevancy of the book with the standard of content from the Board of National Education Standard, (2) organization, (3) language content, (4) the language skills, (5) topic, (6) lay out and graphics, and (7) the practical consideration taken from the criteria proposed by the Board of National Education Standard and these following Experts including Harmer (1983), Grant (1991), Sheldon (1988), and Cunningsworth (1995). The method of the research is descriptive evaluative by using content analysis design. The techniques of data collection used were evaluation rating scale, questionnaire and interview guide. In terms the relevancy of the book with the standard of content from the Board of National Education Standard, the textbook was categorized as good with the total score percentage 66.8%. Secondly, in terms of organization, the textbook was categorized as fair with the total percentage 60%. Thirdly, in terms of language content, the textbook was categorized as fair with the total percentage 58.33%. Fourthly, in terms of language skills, the textbook was categorized as good with the total percentage 71%. Fifthly, in terms of the topic, the textbook was categorized as fair with the total percentage 60%. Sixthly, in terms of lay out and graphics, the textbook was categorized as good with the total percentage 71.6%. Seventhly, in terms of practical considerations, the textbook was categorized as fair, with the total percentage 60%. The overall fulfillment of the seven criteria reached 63.96%. It could be inferred that the book was good. Based on the findings the researcher suggested that the authors of the textbook should improve the quality of the textbook by considering several aspects above. The textbook publishers should also be more selective in choosing the textbooks they would publish. The English teachers of tenth graders needed to create new materials not only from the book. For other researchers who might conduct studies on the similar topic about textbook evaluation, it was suggested that the future researchers should make more careful consideration in selecting the criteria of textbook evaluation.
