Materializing Experience: A Case Study Of Tunist As The Fans Of The Overtunes In Surabaya

- This study concerns the issue of materialization experience of Tunist Surabaya as the fans of The Overtunes through their consumption activities. The terms of material and experiential consumption activities invented by Baudrillard, where he explained that everything that contained sign value and symbolic value as objects of consumption. These objects will build a certain image for their consumers, according to the needs of certain social groups. In this study, the focus on the meaning of consumption activities carried out by Tunist Surabaya through material and experiential objects, with the help of Baudrillard‘s consumption theory in his book, Consumer Society. To analyze how the consumption patterns of Tunist Surabaya, as the fans of The Overtunes, especially in experiential way, the writer applies the qualitative method with interviews with the informants in order to depth examine the statement of the problem. The results of this study shown that there is hierarchy or class that unconsciously build among the community members and how the experiential consumption have more value than the material one according to informants. This study has several striking points to further analyze by other researcher to depth analyze the combination consumption of local fandom, especially in Surabaya.
