- Backgrounds. Chronic inflammation is the prolonging inflammation due to the failed elimination of agents which is marked with the infiltration of chronic inflammation cells and delayed repair phase. It can be further destructive or repair depending on to agents, environment, and immune systems, like as plasma cell which actively produces immunoglobulin. The chronic state is caused by the increasing destructed tissue’s cells due to acidic exposure as the side product of anaerob metabolism. It leads to delayed repair phase and requires an intervention as alkaline drinking water do. The alkaline drinking water has a potential to neutralize the acidic conditions. Purpose. The aim of the research is to prove the 8,5 – 9 pH range of alkaline drinking water can increase the amount of plasma cells during the chronic inflammation. Method. An in vivo experimental laboratory has done to 16 samples of Rattus norvegicus which were designed to have oral mucosal chronic inflammation. The independent group was given the alkaline drinking water when the chronic sign appeared. Meanwhile, the control was not given. The decapitulation was done at 3rd day after treatment and specimens were stained with PAS staining. Then, the plasma cells were counted quantitively. Result. The independent group which drank alkaline water has the greater amount of plasma cell than control group. Conclusion. The 8,5 – 9 pH range of alkaline drinking water increases the amount of plasma cells during oral mucosal chronic inflammation.
