  • Spilanthes acmellais plants that contains several chemicals constituents, such as ferulic acid and coumarin scopoletin. These compounds can increase bone mass and inhibit osteoclast activity which have potential as a therapy for osteoporosis. This study aims to determine the physical characteristics of 70% ethanol extract CMC-Na gel of Spilanthes acmella in different concentrations, such as pH, spreadability, viscosity and to their antiosteoporotic activity based on femoral trabecular bone density in female mice induced by dexamethasone. The results showed the increasing concentrations of Spilanthes acmella extract had effected on the physical characters of gel. The chemical constituents of extract can affect the increasing viscosity, but reducing the pattern spreading of gel. In the antiosteoporotic activity showed the gel had a significant increasing on femoral trabecular bone density compared to the control group.
