- Besowo villages located on the slopes of Mount Kelud is one of the disaster-prone areas. To fulfill the water needs, the villagers got water supply from the water source named "Damlak" located in protected forest areas. "Damlak" is a water reservoir place which made in the Dutch colonial era. When in the Dutch colonial era, water of "Damlak" was needed to fulfill the needs of water and electric power to stir a coffee factory in the village of Besowo. The existence of "Damlak" water brings lots of benefit to Besowo Village residentsand it is the only source of water to fulfill the drinking water needs of the village. "Damlak" exposed to landslides due to cold lava flooding and damage of protected forests. Therefore, this paper will describe "How to maintain a form of social capital to maintain Damlakâs function to fulfill the water needs of the villagers?. The results of the study is, "Damlak" may provide and fulfill the water needs of the villagers because Damlak water source have been maintained jointly by the villagers. Although when it rains in the protected areas, the water becomes turbid because of old pipes and dirty water mixed with soil in the shelter around it.
