  • Contribution of the social sciences in development in Indonesia is undoubtedly due to many social science experts who are involved in world affairs arena, active participation in politics, and development. In policy making and implementation can not be separated from social and cultural issues. One area of social science that studies the socio-cultural characteristic is social anthropology. Field of social anthropology studies includes several things, among others, development anthropology, political anthropology, economic-industrial anthropology, rural anthropology and soon. Characteristics of social anthropology in providing support to sustainable development is to provide information in the form of qualitative data relating to the social and cultural characteristics associated with the lives of its people. Therefore the contribution of social anthropology to include sustainable development in the manufacturing process as well as the implementation of development policies. One study that is no less important in social anthropology is a matter of life of rural communities. This paper focuses on the contribution of anthropology rural to sustainable development. Rural Anthropology contribution in supporting sustainable development of rural areas provide particular information obtained through qualitative research, for example on the socio cultural characteristic of rural communities related to poverty, health and so on.
