  • Workers who work in an industry with high dust exposure can experience health problems, especially those with impaired pulmonary function. Brem industry in Madiun Regency is an industry with high dust exposure where the dust produced comes from the cooking process using conventional wood stoves. Various types of individual characteristics of workers can also affect the functioning of their lungs. This research was conducted to analyze the relationship between individual characteristics and pulmonary function in production workers in the Madiun Regency brem industry. The type of research used in this study was observational. The study design used a cross sectional approach. The sample used is the total population of the specialized workers in the production section of the brem industry in Madiun Regency as many as 18 respondents. The data obtained were analyzed using the Contingency Coefficient statistical test to measure the closeness of the relationship. The results of measurements using spirometer showed that as many as 9 workers (50%) experienced impaired pulmonary function. Contingency coefficient test shows that there is a low correlation on gender and nutritional status with pulmonary function. Whereas the variable work period, smoking habits, history of illness, and use of APD have a strong relationship with moderate pulmonary function. The conclusion of this study is that there is a moderate relationship between years of work, smoking habits, history of illness, and use of PPE with the function of pulmonary function of workers in the production section of the brem industry in Madiun Regency. It is strongly recommended that companies should provide regular checks on workers and also replace workers who have been affected by pulmonary physiological function so that lung function does not worsen. In addition, workers should reduce smoking habits and use masks every time they work.
