Daftar Isi:
- This research focuses on the articulation of roleplayer’s virtual identities that use K-Pop idols as their characters, played via Twitter. This research is interesting because the way roleplayer construct their identities can be different between the real world and virtual world. The study also wanted to find out their experiences in playing the role of Korean idol. The aspects that will be examined are virtual identity (including profiles, character and motivation), experiences (the experience of interacting and pairing with other roleplayer), and the reflection on identity towards everyday life. Thus, the objective of this study is how to articulate virtual identity of roleplayer who played K-Pop idol as their characters via Twitter. The author used a qualitative descriptive analysis method with interview techniques. Interviews were conducted with 6 roleplayers consisting of 5 female players and 1 male roleplayer who lived in Surabaya-Sidoarjo and Gresik. Some theories used to support this research are popular culture, globalization and virtual identities. In articulating their virtual identity, roleplayers can not escape from their reallife identity. Their real life identities help them to shape their vitual life, starting from selecting character, customizing account and determining circles. Also, their virtual identity is dynamic, fluid and flexible. They and their identity are actively engaged in dialectics, in which they are never finished and always changes.
