  • Background. Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria are pathogenic bacteria that cause dental caries and lactic acid producers that are productive and are tolerant to acid. Nowadays, many natural ingredients have been developed into medicines, one of which is Allium sativum (garlic) because it contains allicin compounds which are antimicrobial compounds. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of allicin in toothpaste against Lactobacillus Acidophilus. Method. The sample in this study was toothpaste containing allicin with a concentration of 5%, 10%, 20% and 40%. They were divided in 4 group which are 5%, 10%, 20%, 40% of toothpaste allicin and aquades was used for the control negative while pure toothpaste as control positive. Each group consists of 6 specimens. The data was analyzed using Anova Test and HSD. Results. The results showed that the minimum inhibitory level of allicin in toothpaste against Lactobacillus Acidophilus was 20% and the best inhibitory content of allicin in toothpaste against Lactobacillus Acidophilus was 40%. Conclusion. Inhibition of Lactobacillus Acidophilus by allicin in toothpaste is better with higher concentration.
