  • This research analyzed women’s linguistic features used by female main characters in movie entitled I, Tonya (2017). There are ten elements of women’s linguistic features according to Lakoff, those are lexical hedges or filler, tag question, intensifiers, empty adjective, ‘’hypercorrect’ grammar, ‘superpolite’ form, precise color term, avoidance of strong swear words, emphatic stress, and rising intonation on declarative. This research used descriptive qualitative method and the writer was collecting the data by watching the I, Tonya movie several times, read the transcript, and identified women’s linguistic features that appeared in the female main characters. The research is conducted using Lakoff’s theory (1975). The researcher found eight women’s linguistic features that occurred in this movie, those are intensifier (9), emphatic stress (20), ‘superpolite’ form (1), lexical hedges or filler (21), tag question (2), empty adjective (2), rising intonation on declarative (1), and avoidance of strong swear words (2). The most frequently feature used by the female main characters in this movie is lexical hedges or filler. It shows that the female main characters in the I, Tonya movie tend to fill the silence gap between the utterances. Meanwhile, there are women’s linguistic features did not occur in the movie: ‘hypercorrect’ grammar and precise color terms.
