- Levinson states that speakers should follow cooperative maxim in order to for participants to converse in the most efficient, rational, and cooperative way (1983: 102) yet people sometimes still flout that principle. This study focuses in identifying the types, strategies, and functions of flouting maxims happens in Deadpool 2 movieby utilizing Grice’s cooperative maxim theory, theory in analyzing the strategies of flouting maxim proposed by Cutting, and Austin’s perlocutionary effect theory. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this study. The data of the research were utterances the main character in Deadpool 2 that flouts the cooperative maxim. The data were collected from the script of the the Deadpool 2 movie. The data analysis was conducted by categorizing the data into the types, strategies, and functions of flouting maxim, analyzing the data, and then drawing conclusions. The results of the research are all types of flouting maxim are found in the movie. Moreover all strategies of flouting maxim are present. As for the functions of the maxim all are present except for alarming, surprising, and enlightening.
