- Racial discrimination is still considered as one of the most concerning issue because it promotes inequality between races. This research examines the representation of Black Americans and their stereotypes in Southpaw (2015). The research purpose is to examine how the Black Americans characters are being portrayed in the movie and whether it improves their stereotype or rather make it worse. In the analysis, Theory of Representation by Stuart Hall will be used as the main theory, with qualitative method using narrative and non-narrative approach to analyze the object. In arranging the analysis, the data that will be use are the portrayal of 2 main Black American characters in the movie based on the existing stereotypes of the Trickster and Magical Negro to reveal the representation of Black American through them. After applying the theory to the analysis, the study reveals that when Black American are portrayed in an antagonistic role, they will have power to control other meanwhile when they are portrayed in a positive role, they will be put under negative circumstances. It shows that discrimination practices in America is still exist and now has taken a more latent way which might make it a more dangerous
