- Introduction: Many elderly who experience neglected in RW X Kelurahan Ngagel Rejo Surabaya City. Neglect which is experienced by elderly, triggered by the burden of caregivers in meeting the needs of the elderly. Caregiver ignorance of neglect, type of neglect, neglect impact. Purpose: This study aimed to explain correlation between caregiver burden with elder neglect in RW X Kelurahan Ngagel Rejo Surabaya City. Method: The design of this study was correlation with Cross sectional approach. Population in this study were all caregiver, elder more than 60 years and stay with caregiver in RW X Kelurahan Ngagel Rejo Surabaya City. Therefore, the sample of this study were 50 sample with purposive sampling technique. Independent variable in this study was caregiver burden and dependent variable was elder neglect. Caregiver burden were collected by using questionnaire based on Caregiver Burden Scale component checklist with 22 questions and elder neglect were collected by using questionnaire based on elder neglect component checklist with 20 questions. Data were analyzed by using Spearmen’s rho with α ≤ 0,05. Result: Spearmen’s rho statistic test showed value p= 0,00 with r= 0,867, it mean caregiver burden correlate with elder neglect. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r=0,867) showed very strong relationship. r values showed positive correlation which means that the more heavy burden caregivers, the higher elderly abuse level. But, that didn’t apply to the elderly with light burden that was considered independent by their caregiver. Discussion : caregiver burden very heavy and the neglect of the elderly happens in RW X Kelurahan Ngagel Rejo Surabaya City. This study suggests that Puskesmas Kelurahan Ngagel Rejo, especially posyandu elderly can to increase caregiver knowledge on giving treatment at home and the further research can arrange new research relate to elderly protection done by community health worker.
