- This study aims to figure out how a black female character, Julia, challenges black women stereotype in the movie Unforgettable (2017). This movie tells the story of an impeccably beautiful white woman who arranged to make life a living hell for her ex-husband‟s dark skinned new fiancée. Fascinatingly it is starred by a prominent black female character that is beautifully desirable as a stepmother and wife to be. Using qualitative research method, this study identifies that racism issue is inserted through black woman stereotyping, the white racist as a perpetrator towards black woman, and also black woman objectification in this movie. In order to challenge stereotypical depictions which can be inaccurate and unfair, the images need to be examined and assumptions about the role figured out. In this case, the writer attempts to define and challenge the stereotype of African-American women using black feminist perspective. As a critical social theory in examining social injustice reinforced by racial discrimination for African-American women, Patricia Hill Collins‟s theory is appropriate to be implemented in this study. Both narrative and non-narrative aspects in the movie is analyzed to strengthen the finding. The finding of this study hopefully will emphasize that the concept of racism in any form should be figured out in purpose to reach better future without discrimination and oppression in the worldwide.
