- Slips of the ear may happen because the hearer fails in perceiving utterances in a conversation that takes place in both noisy and quiet situation. The aim of this study is to find out the types and most frequent type of slips of the ear by Bond (2005). The participants of this study are 30 elementary students’ grades 1-3 of SDN Dr. Sutomo 5 Surabaya. Method used in this research is pre experimental design by giving a listening test in which the participants had to complete eight sentences orally based on the recording they heard. As a result, there were 56 incorrect answers classified into 11 types out of 14 types of SOE, namely; vowel, consonant, phonological reduction, language varieties, non-word, word boundary, content and function word, morphological, well-formed and illformed, and semantical misperception. Thus, the most frequent type that occurred is well-formed and ill-formed misperception which is 45.38%. It indicated that even though the students tend to change the words in a sentence, but they still consider the grammar rules which lead to either well-formed or ill-formed sentences.
