  • Background: The high prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in female teenager in Indonesia is 30% to make Indonesia given mandate by WHO to run the program of giving of Fe tablet for girls. Fe tablet program for junior and senior high school girl in Surabaya has been running since October 2017. According to the theory of Health Belief Model one's intentions are formed from the existence of modifying factors, individual beliefs and cues to action. Young women in Surabaya get anemia prevention program with the provision of Fe tablets, but it is not clear how far the intention of young women to be willing and able to consume them. This study aims to analyze factors related to the intention of young women in consuming Fe tablet as anemia prevention effort in Surabaya. Method: This research used analytic observational method with cross sectional research design. Sampling technique used proportional random sampling with the number of samples of 100 female students. The study was conducted from September 2017 to April 2018. Independent variables were parental income, knowledge of anemia and Fe tablet, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived threat, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, and perceived self efficacy. Dependent variable was female teen intention. Results: In Chi Square analysis (α = 0,05), there was a correlation between perceived threat (p = 0,015), perceived benefit (p = 0,005), perceived barrier (p = 0,018) and perceived self efficacy (p = 0,000) young woman in consuming Fe tablet, whereas parent income, knowledge, perceived susceptibility, and perceived severity were not found correlation with intention of young woman in consuming Fe tablet. In the regression analysis there was dominant factor that modify the intention of young woman in consuming Fe tablet that was perceived self efficacy (p = 0,000). Conclusion: There was a correlation between perceived threat, perceived benefit, perceived barrier and perceived self efficacy with the intention of young girls in consuming Fe tablets. The dominant factor affecting the intention of young women in SMA N 5 Surabaya was perceived self efficacy.
