  • The aim of this research is to know the effect of Kersen leaf extract (Muntingia calabura L.) can recover the cells in islets Langerhans of pancreas at rats model diabetes melitus induces by alloxan. This research using rats induced by alloxan intraperitoneally with single dose of 120 mg/200gramBW. This study use thirty rats and its devide into 6 groups, K(-) are a control group with healthy rats just giving of CMC-Na 1%, K(+) grup of diabetic’s rats and treated by metformin 12,6 mg/200gBw, (P0) group of diabetic’s rats and treated by CMC-Na 1%, (P1) group of diabetic’s rats dan treated by Kersen leaf extract 250 mg/kgBw, (P2) group of diabetic’s rats dan treated by Kersen leaf extract 500 mg/kgBw, and (P3) group of diabetic’s rats and treated by Kersen leaf extract 1000 mg/kgBw. All of the therapy given by orally and given for 14 days. The observations were made to calculate the cell amount in islets Langerhans of pancreas which treated by Kersen leaf extract 500 mg/kgBw (P2) was not significanlly different (p>0,05) with the positive group (K+) and was significally different (p<0,05) with the P0 group. The result of this research that kersen leaf extract can not recover the cells in islets Langerhans of pancreas at rats model diabetes melitus induces by alloxan.
