- Background: 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) is resin-based methacrylate materials are most used in adhesive system in dentistry. To reduce the level of HEMA toxicity, HEMA added to the solvent, the solvents commonly used are water, ethanol and acetone because they are easy to obtain and are cheap. Significant concerns still remain regarding their biocompatibility. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate the biocompatibility of HEMA, HEMA solvent water, HEMA solvent ethanol and HEMA solvent acetone by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) as oxidative stress parameters. Methode: Twentyseven rats were equally divided into 3 groups. three dental resin base adhesives system were applied to dentin surface in Wistar rat teeth. MDA assestment were evaluated according levels of malondialdehyde expressions under microscope 24 hours after initiation of treatment. Results: HEMA solvent ethanol gives most malondialdehyde’s expression than the other groups. Conclusion: HEMA solvent ethanol had giving much more MDA odontoblast cells expression wistar rat’s pulp teeth than HEMA solvent water and HEMA solvent acetone.
