  • INTRODUCTION: A diagnosis of breast cancer raises a stressor that is meaningful and can be accompanied by depression. Cortisol is a hormone associated with depression.By knowing the emotional state of breast cancer patients who experience symptoms of depression after being diagnosed, treatment can be done in a comprehensive manner with the hope of treatment can be working optimally.AIM:To know relationship of the level of depression symptoms with breast cancer stage in POSA RSUD Dr.Soetomo.METHOD:The study was observational analytic study of cross-sectional against breast cancer patients at first visit in POSA RSUD Dr. Soetomo. This research use questionnaire BDI-II to measure the rate of depression symptoms.Methods of statistical analysis test is Spearman correlation.RESULT: Obtained 43 women with most age range 45-59 years (60.5%), the last largest education history at the high school (41,9%), and most everyday work as a housewife (74,4%).Old lumps in the breasts felt more than 1 year 70.7%; 46.5% predominantly patients with stage III,and 62.8% of patients with the results of the BDI-II there are no symptoms of depression.The result shows a weak relationship between the rate of depression symptoms with the staging of breast cancer (Sig. 0,009<0,396, rs = 0.05).The weak relationship between variables because:(1) distribution of stadium is uneven;(2) The results of the BDI-II showed no symptoms of depression in the majority of patients;(3)Subjects in the phase receives against his condition through the condition of spirituality a good subject and can affect the emotional conditions conducive for the subject. Conditions of spirituality a good subjects make the subject arose from slump, and religious;(4) The positive support of the family; and (5) positive Support from fellow cancer survivors who have been healed.CONCLUSION:The increase in breast cancer stage is followed by an increase in symptoms of depression.
