  • p-methoxycinnamic acid (pMCA) is a substance obtained from the hydrolysis of ethyl p-methoxycinnamate (EpMC) synthesized from Kaempferia galanga Linn. pMCA has an antianalgesic effect with low solubility in water (0.712 mg / ml). The purpose of this study was investigate charactericzation and toxicity of complex inclusion between pMCA and hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) prepared by slurry method. The formation of the complex inclusion is carried out with a 1:1 molar ratio and used water as a solvent. The inclusion complex was characterizated by some analitycal method such as X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA). The inclusion complexes are shown to have different characteristics when compared with the single compound of pMCA, HPβCD, and the physical mixture of pMCA-HPβCD. The toxicity test result in no toxic events happened and there was no mices died from the administered dose (50 mg/kgBB pMCA). These changing of characteristics proved that inclusion complex was formed and the toxicity test was no toxic.
