- Children with mental retardation have IQ score less than 70. This have caused limitations in communication skills, interaction skills, and socialization skills. One of the ways to improve their socialization skills was play theraphy using constuctive play method with lego. This study was aimed to analyze the effect of play theraphy using constructive play method with lego through with socialization skill improvement in children mental retardation. Design used in this study was quasy experimental design. The population were the first grade of the elementary student of SDLB C Banyuwangi. The samples were gathered by using total sampling method consisted of 14 respondents based on inclusion criteria which were devided into control and experimental groups. The independent variable was play theraphy using constructive play method with lego and dependent variable was socialization skills of children with mental retardation. The data observation was collected and analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test with sifnificance α = 0.05. Results showed that were was a difference of socialization skill after the intervention on the experimental group (p = 0.025), which can be meant that play theraphy using constructive play with lego can improve socialization skills in children with mental retardation (p = 0.024). It can be concluded that theraphy using constructive play with lego can improve socialization skills in children with mental retardation.
