- Joint pain in elderly is the main complaint of rheumatoid arthritis caused by age, gender, mechanical stress, excessive use of joints, anatomical defects, obesity, genetic, humoral and cultural factors. Joint pain in the elderly is overcome with pharmacological and non-pharmacological management. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of shalat movement with tuma’ninah on joint pain due to rheumatoid arthritis in elderly. This was a quasiexperimental study involving control and treatment groups. Samples were taken with simple random sampling, obtaining 26 respondents. The independent variable was movement in shalat with tuma’ninah and the dependent variable was joint pain due to rheumatoid arthritis, as measured with WOMAC index. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney Test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed p=0.003 in treatment group and p=0.341 in control group. This demonstrated effect of shalat movement on joint pain due to rheumatoid arthritis in elderly. Mann Whitney Test results showed that p pretest=0.979 and p posttest=0.096, which showed no difference in control group and treatment group. In conclusion, movement in shalat has effect to decrease joint pain due to rheumatoid arthritis in elderly, which in turn improves the joint flexibility. Elderly people with rheumatoid arthritis are expected to carry out activities such as light exercise, such as walking and performing movement of shalat with tuma’ninah movement to reduce joint pain.
