- Monumen Tugu Pahlawan dan Museum 10 Nopember is the most famous icon of Surabaya as “City of Heroes”. It was built to commemorate the heroes who died in The Battle of Surabaya on 10 November 1945. The writer chose to do her internship in The Monumen Tugu Pahlawan dan Museum 10 Nopember because she wanted to learn more about history, especially the epic history of Battle of Surabaya. She realized that we, as the young generation, should not just forget the important history of our country, especially our city just because it is past. The writer also wanted to practice her English skills by interacting directly with foreigners. As the famous historical tourism object in Surabaya, many tourists visit Monumen Tugu Pahlawan dan Museum 10 Nopember. The writer did her internship at The Monumen Tugu Pahlawan dan Museum 10 Nopember as a tour guide, she was part of The Collection and Education Division. Her main duties were becoming a tour guide, a translator, a museum attendant and a front officer. As a student from English Diploma and doing internship in a famous historical tourism object, the writer got many chances to increase her English skills. With the help of knowledge and lesson that she got from English Diploma, she did not find any major problem in doing her duties. The writer got a lot of useful experiences from her internship that she can use for her career in the future. Besides the skill experiences, the writer also got other useful experiences from her internship such as she could see the real situation of work environment, how to adapt in a new work environment and how to work as a team. She also could learn how to be a reliable and trustworthy person in the work environment by being punctual, coming to the office on time, being polite to the staff, doing the tasks that were given to her well and also always pay attention to the way she talks to the staff. These experiences will definitely be useful for the writer in the future. She also got a chance to learn about the history of Battle of Surabaya and because of it she could respect the hard struggle of our heroes more. The writer met many interesting and different types of people, so in the future she could adapt faster with the new work environment and how to deal with different types of people at the work place. The writer recommends The Monumen Tugu Pahlawan dan Museum 10 Nopember as one of the good places for English Diploma students to do their internship later. In this place, students will get a good opportunity to practice their English skills, especially speaking and translation. Students can also learn more and gain wide knowledge about history, especially about the epic history of The Battle of Surabaya.
