- English is an important language which functions as a communication tool. English is a must-have language to compete in ASEAN Economic Community. Applied to face ASEAN Economic Community, English is as lingua franca. It means that people who do not share the same native language use English as a communication tool (Harmer, 2007). Nowadays, the Curriculum of 2013 is applied in public schools and some private schools. One of its effects is English lesson duration was reduced in Elementary school although the students need to learn it longer. Both public schools and some private schools apply the Curriculum of 2013. In addition, some private schools have many activities to develop the students’ English. One example of the private schools in is SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya. It has an “A” accreditation. It is a unit of Perguruan Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya. SD Islam Al-Azhar has a commitment to develop the quality of intellectual Muslim. It applies education based on the concept of character building. Developing the learning quality through the character building and the ability of mastering Science and Technology, SD Islam Al-Azhar is trusted by the society. The duties of teachers are important because their roles are vital. The writer had an opportunity to do her internship in SD Islam Al-Azhar Kelapa Gading. It was pleasure to experience of becoming a real teacher. The writer experienced being an English teacher andteacher assistant, preparing the lessons and evaluations, and handling English morning. English morning is a 30-minutes lesson which aims to enhance the students’ English skill. She had some problems during her internship but she could find the solutions. The important things that she got from her internship are to have additional plans while teaching and to make a good rapport with all students
