  • Backgroud: Phyllodes tumors are uncommon stromal-epithelial neoplasms, and classified into benign, borderline, and malignant groups on the basis of their histological features. Until now pathogenesis of phyllodes tumor is unclear. CD117 (c-kit) is a cell surface receptor which has been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis and progression of many malignancies. Ki-67 is involved in proliferative pathway tumor such as breast carcinoma. Purpose: To analyze the differences of the CD117 and Ki-67 expression on benign, borderline and malignant phyllodes tumor. Methods: This is analytic observational study with cross sectional design. Ten sample each of benign, borderline, and malignant phyllodes tumor were taken from histopathological archives of Dr Soetomo hospital Surabaya during the period January 2009- July 2014. Immunohistochemical staining with CD117 polyclonal antibody and Ki-67 monoclonal antibody were performed. The differences of CD117 and Ki-67 expression on phyllodes tumor were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis dan Mann whitney test. The correlation between CD117 and Ki-67 expresssion were analyzed by Spearman. Result: There was statistically significant difference of CD117 expression between benign and malignant phyllodes tumor (p=0,035, p<0,05) and also Ki-67 expression on benign, borderline and malignant phyllodes tumor (p = 0.000, p< 0,05). There was correlation between the expression of CD117 and Ki-67 in phyllodes tumor ( p< 0,05). Conclusion: CD117 expression may play a role in distinguishing benign and malignant phyllodes tumor. Ki-67 may play a role in distinguishing benign, borderline and malignant. There was correlation between the expression of CD117 and Ki-67 in phyllodes tumor (p = 0,015, p < 0,05)
