- Objective : to compare the tear stability post administration of preservative containing timolol 0.5 % and non preservative Timolol 0,5% in white rabbit’s cornea New Zealand (Oryctolagus cuniculus) for 2 weeks. Method : This is an experimental study on 20 healthy white male rabbit New Zealand (Oryctolagus cuniculus) or 40 eye, weighing between 2.5 to 3.5 kg , will be separated with 2 groups, group 1 with 20 eye was give of preservative Benzalkonium chlorida containing timolol 0.5 % and group 2 with 20 eye will be given of non preservative timolol 0,5%. Tear Break-Up Time result was done on day 0, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 14th. Result : There was significant decrease of Tear Break-Up Time result in both groups from day 3, 5, 7, and 14 (p = 0.000). No significant difference was found on Tear Break-Up Time on day 3 (p=0.920), day 5 (p=0.655), day 7 (p=0.729) and day 14 (p=383) between preservative and non preservative groups. Conclusions : This study shows a difference in Tear Break-Up Time result in group preservative group (0.5% timolol with preservative agent Benzalkonium chlorida 0.01% and non preservative group. Timolol itself can decrease Break-Up Time test result, but the additional preservative not showed more significant decrease in Tear Break Up-Time
