- The aim of this research was to find out the effect of chloroform extract and essential oil of temu ireng (Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb.) rhizome on renal histopatological feature in male mice. This research used 25 male mice wich devided randomly into five groups. (K) as a control was given CMC-Na solution, two groups were given chloroform extract of temu ireng for (P1A) 400 mg/kgBW/day and (P1B) 600 mg/kgBW/day, and the last two groups were given essential oil of temu ireng for (P2A) 400 mg/kgBW/day and (P2B) 600 mg/kgBW/day. After 10 days treatment, mice dissected and the kidney were taken to make histopatological preparations. The data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis, and further analyzed by Mann-Whitney test. The result of treatment cause cell injury leading to cell death (necrosis), hydropic degeneration and fatty degeneration. All of testing group cause cell degeneration, whereas essential oil dosage of temu ireng rhizome caused cell death. Its influence more than chloroform extract form. Increase of doses rhizome essential oil cause increase of cell change in mice’s kidney significantly.
