- Parent's assertive communication in personal systems is influenced by age, number of children, and education level. Social and emotional development of young children in a social system is affected by parent's assertive communication. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between assertive communication of parents and children with social and emotional development in early childhood in PPT Maha Surabaya. This study used correlative descriptive design with cross sectional approach. The population were parents of students at class B, PPT Maha Surabaya. Total sample were 20 respondents, taken according to purposive sampling. The independent variable was parents assertive communication. The dependent variable was social and emotional development in early childhood. Data were collected by using questionnaire and analyzed by using Spearman's rho test with significance level α=0.05. Result showed strong correlation between assertive communication in parents and children with social and emotional development in early childhood (p=0.000). Children's ability to interact with others and express their feelings is influenced by parents assertive communication which provide a relevant and consistent response to the demands of a particular social context. Assertive communication that is continuously trained and improved will make children having good emotional and social development. Next research are expected to use assertiveness training for social and emotional development in early childhood.
