- Role of mother‟s care for a baby is usually assigned to other people due to mother‟s fear and nescience about how to care for their baby. Confidence is the mother's view of attitudes and beliefs in doing her task. Low maternal confidence may postpone the transition in achieving the maternal role and attachment between mother and baby. The purpose of this study is to deliberate the effect of the Healthy Baby Booklet to primiparous mother's confidence in newborn baby care in Puskesmas Gunung Anyar Surabaya. This study was a quasy experiment that used pre-posttest control group design. The population in this study was primiparous postpartum mothers who gave birth in Puskesmas Gunung Anyar on June 2015. There were 8 respondents as treatment group and 8 respondents as control group, taken using purposive sampling. The independent variable was the Healthy Baby Booklet while the dependent variable was primiparous mother‟s confidence. Data was collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann Whitney test with significance of α ≤ 0,05. The result of Wilcoxon test showed that p=0,012 for treatment group while the control group gained value p=0,027, Mann Whitney test showed p=0,117. The conclusion of this study was that Healthy Baby Booklet had no significant effects on primiparous mothers„s confidence in newborn baby care. The further studies are expected to explore intervention methods aimed at increasing primiparous mothers„s confidence in newborn baby care.
