  • Increased industrial activity will produce a wide range of wastes released into the environment and ultimately have an impact on public health. One of the hazardous and toxic waste that should be of concern are wastes containing heavy metals one of which is lead. The aims of this research was to know the effect of lead exposure in the air to blood lead levels, Hb, RBC, Gamma-GT (γ- GT), Cystatin C serum and health complaints on lead smelter workers in Tegal regency. This research is an observational research conducted cross-sectional study. The study sample consisted of 24 male workers who were divided into two different groups. Workers in the first group were lead smelter workers, while workers in the second group were unexposed healthy volunteers as control for comparison. The results indicate the blood lead levels of exposed and unexposed groups between 3.80 - 121.5 μg/dL. The average of levels of lead in exposed group was 0,14 mg/m3and the average of environmental levels of lead in unexposed group was 0,002 mg/m3. Higher blood lead levels consentration was significantly assosiated with the environmental levels of lead (b=0.953 ; p=0.000).Decreases in hemoglobin, RBC and serum cystatin C level of health complaints include complaints haemopioetik, digestive complaints and complaints of kidney function is affected by blood lead levels with p <0.05. The conclusion of this research highlight that environmental levels of lead had a positive relationship with blood lead level. And the blood lead levels affected the decrease of hemoglobin and RBC. The blood lead levels affected the increase ofcystatin C serum levelsand health complaints.
