Mockingbird”. The aims of the research are to find out the intrinsic elements on
Lee’s, to kill a mockingbird, and to find out the way of the writer present the intrinsic
elements. In this research paper, the writer focused to analyze setting, plot, character
and point of view based on Abrams theory. The purpose of the writer choose this
theory because Abrams theory is one of theory use for analyzing the literary work
based on intrinsic elements of literary work of the elements of literary work. The
writer used a descriptive method. The purpose of this method is to make a systematic,
factual, and accurate description about facts and natures of certain objects. Based on
the method above, the writer used several steps, there are: library research, read the
novel to find the intrinsic element as the main data. The result of this research is main
character Atticus and the additional characters are Scout and Jem. Atticus Finch is the
father Scout and Jem. He is professional work as lawyers. Atticus as a father and a
good lawyer and Atticus is a lawyer who defended Afro-American. Scout, is a girls
five years old. She is smart, mature and tomboy. Jem is the brother of Scout, four
years older than her. Jem is gently and often worried about the state of her sister
Scout. He is moody and sullen. Setting in this novel is Maycomb County, Alabama.
This novel takes places in the fictional small town of Maycomb based on Harper
Lee’s home town of Monroeville. In 1930’s, Alabama is having a racist issue that
resulted in Afro-Americans life miserable. The years of the Great Depression when
poverty and unemployment were widespread in the United States. For parts of the
deep South like Maycomb County, the Depression meant only that the bad times that
had been going on for decades got a little bit worse. These rural areas had long been
poor and undeveloped, Afro-American worked for low wages in the fields. In this
novel, Scout described as point of view, which is told back according to the
