- Slang is a language variety used in situation of extreme informality with both coined words and those with the new or extended meaning it develops for an attempt to find the vigorous, colorful, and humorous expression among peers and friends. There are no rules for creating slang. It is arbitrary made which means that words are vocal sounds or letter combination, that symbolize or signify something. This article discusses the relations between theory and function in using slang in Over the Top novel and analyze the term in a descriptive way regarding its analytical aspects.
