- At present, there is an acute shortage of housing because of the scarcity of conventional materials coupled with rapid population growth. Some researchers attempted to find new low-cost construction materials to subtitute expensive materials. Bamboo has great economic porential, especially in the developing countries, because it can be replenished within a very short time. A critical assessment of the present status andfuture prospects of bamboo housing would be helpful in expoiting that potential.
