  • This research aimed to investigate the effect of mass flow rate of water in piped-water heat absorber, place right above kiln, on outlet temperature of the water. The research expected to provide an overview of potential heat of kiln surface and heat absorber design for the achievement of energy efficiency as well as a basis for development and improvement in the future in order to conserve energy. The rotary kiln of cement was modeled as hollow tube with diameter 2 m and the pipe was modeled as hollow with diameter 0.1 m. Temperature of kiln shell was 350°C. Inside the pipe, water was flowed with variation of mass flow rate 7.83×10-3 kg/s, 7.83×10-2 kg/s, 7.83×10-1 kg/s and 7.83 kg/s. The research was conducted by using commercial numerical simulation CFD software, i.e. Gambit and Fluent 6.3. The simulation were carried by two case. The first case, the heat was assumed pure convection and the second case, heat transfer was considered pure radiation. Outlet temperature of water and heat captured by water was obtained. The result was presented in graph ΔT vs m ̇ and Q vs m ̇. The simulation shown that radiative heat transfer had greatest effect on temperature difference of water and amount of heat captured compare to convective heat transfer. Temperature difference of water and heat captured by water in form of radiative heat transfer had a value of about 193°C and 811,977 J/kg respectively. While temperature difference of water and heat captured by water in form of convective heat transfer had a value of about 6°C and 25,1447 J/kg respectively.
