- THE COMPARISON OF THE SHAPE AND LENGTH OF THE PALATAL RUGAE PATTERN AMONG MINANGNESE MOTHER AND HER BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER ABSTRACT Background: Palatal Rugae is the anatomical structure that has been considered relevant as an alternative for forensic identification. Minangnese is the branch of Deutro Malay race that determining descent through the mother line. Some researchers suggest the resemblance of palatal rugae pattern within lineage influenced by the race and heredity. Purpose: the purpose of this study was to compare the shape and length of the palatal rugae pattern of the Minangnese mother and her biological daughter. Methods: This research is an analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The sample of this study consisted of 78 pairs of dental stone cast of Minangnese mother and her biological daughter. The method of rugae analysis used in this study was based on the shape classification given by Thomas and Kotze and the length classification given by Sunita Kapali. The data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney Test. Result: There is significant resemblance of the palatal rugae based on length which is primary, secondary, and fragmentary and based on shape which is curved, straight, unification and circular with p-value>0,05.
