  • The use of melinjo leaf extracts (Gnetum gnemon Linn.) as a corrosion inhibitor for steel in medium HCl 1 N was investigated by the method of weight loss (weight loss), potentiodynamic polarization, spectrophotometric UV-VIS, and analysis of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results show the inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increasing the concentration of the inhibitor. The maximum inhibition efficiency 91,35 % was observed in the presence of 10 g/L melinjo leaf extract. Inhibition efficiency increased with an increase in extract concentration and temperature. The adsorption process follows Langmuir isotherm. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements showed melinjo leaf extract is a type of anodic inhibitor. UV-Vis analysis showed the formation of a complex melinjo leaf extract with steel surface. Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis shows that there are differences in the morphology of the surface of steel were soaked in 1 N HCl medium with and without the addition of melinjo leaf extract.
