- Application of bioplastic as seeds coating is a new application which developing by seed industry. The adhesive and plastic properties of bioplastics made the seeds coated perfectly. Germination of seeds was unaffected by the thin bioplastic coating. This research had syntesised bioplastics of Cassava (Manihot esculenta) and the applicated as corn seed coating (Zea mays L.). Bioplastics made by variant aquadest:glyserol are 50:1, 100:1, 150:1, 200:1, 250:1, and 5 g starch and rhodamin B. Bioplastic with 50:1 was a perfect coating. The FTIR spectrum shown functional groups in bioplastic. The peak at 3200-3300 cm-1 indicated a hydroxyl group O-H vibration, C=O carbonyl at 1600-1820 cm-1 and C-O ester at 1000-1300 cm-1 showed that bioplastics were hydrofilic. The SEM analysis of bioplastics morphology shown that the surface have pores, so it can use as seeds coating. The seedling of corn had done by 4 variants seeds: 1) new seeds with bioplastic coating, 2) new seeds without bioplastic coating, 3) old seeds with bioplastic coating, and 4) old seeds without bioplastic coating. Seeds germination evaluated under 2 conditions, in vitro and growth chamber. From 2 condition, seeds with bioplastic coating have germination better than uncoated seeds.
