- Potensiality of the extracts from jackfruit and effectiveness as mild steel corrosion inhibitor in the medium of hydrochloric acid was investigated by weight loss measurement, potentiodynamic polarizationand analytical scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The corrosion rate decreases with increasing concentration of the addition of jackfruit leaf extract up to 10 g/L and corrosion inhibition efficiency of 82% occurred in immersion at temperature60 °C. The adsorption process of chemical compounds in the extract on the steel surface is chemical adsorption properties, the bond between jackfruit leaf extract with a metal surface is more stable at high temperatures. The adsorption of the extract constituents was further discussed in view of Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Potentiodynamic polarization curves indicated that jackfruit leaf extract behaves as anodic inhibitor. Shifting the spectrum of functional groups on FTIR analysis of extracts of jackfruit and explain the interaction of corrosion products by jackfruit leaf extract on the surface of mild steel. Complex bonding that occurs in extracts of jackfruit and the steel surface is shown by a shift in the absorbance value. The surface morphology showed mild steel protection jackfruit leaf extract as a good inhibitor.
