  • Paitan (Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray) is one of the medicinal plants. Paitan leaf contains secondary metabolites such as polyphenolic compounds. Polyphenol compounds in general can function as antioxidants. In addition, paitan can also function as anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, cytotoxic, antimicrobial and sore throat, as well as their use as pesticides. The antioxidant activity measured by DPPH indicated with IC50 values of the strongest in the ethyl acetate extract of 107.1739 mg/L, followed by methanol and n-hexane extracts equals to 158.8095 mg/L and 223.8596 mg/L. Determining the highest total phenolic content in the ethyl acetate extract is 15.24 mg/L. Total phenolic content is directly proportional to the ability of the extract as an antioxidant, is shown with a small IC50 value. The strongest cytotoxic activity shown by the ethyl acetate extract with LC50 values of 104.6646 mg / L (R2 = 0.8883). Keywords: Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A.
