- ABSTRACT This study analyzes the role and the steps taken by the Government of Indonesia to help democratization in Myanmar. In this study the authors use the National Role Concept and Strategic Directions Program by the Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD) to analyze the role and explain all the efforts made by Indonesia. By using the concept of national role, it can be seen Indonesia as mediator - integrator has resources such as geographic location, and the ethnic composition of the traditional role - a national culture. Indonesia through the IPD has a mission to seek and find a democratic system that suits the culture and norms of life in Myanmar. IPD in cooperation with the Myanmar government and civil society in designing and implementing capacity building programs in the country so as to provide a positive impact for the development of democracy in Myanmar. This study also proves that Indonesia through IPD under the government of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has a strong commitment to help spread democratic values in Asia Pacific as it is happening in Myanmar for more freedom and a democratic state.
