- ABSTRACT Evaluation of Antioxidant Activity, Cytotoxicity and Total Phenolic Content of Melinjo (Gnetum gnemon Linn) Leaf Extrcats Oleh : Cosnert Rabbani Abdel (BP 1210413012) Dr. Afrizal *, Dr. Mai Efdi* *Advisors The purposes of this paper were evaluated for its antioxidant activity, toxicity and total phenolic content of melinjo leaf extracts. Crude extract obtained through the process of maceration using hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol solvents. Antioxidant activity was performed by measuring the IC50 by spectrophotometric method with 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) while toxicity is done by calculating the LC50 using BSLT (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test) method and total phenolic content is done by using Folin-Ciocalteu method. The results showed that hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts have IC50 respectively 149.4, 122.8 and 111.6 ppm and LC50 respectively 220, 185 and 84.1 ppm and the result of total phenolic content test from hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts respectively 9,01, 22,52 and 35,83 GAE/mg extracts. Methanol extract showed the most active response to the antioxidant activity and toxicity compared to ethyl acetate and hexane extracts. From the research that has been done can be concluded that melinjo leaf extratcs have medium ability as antioxidants and strong ability as cytotoxicity compounds.
