  • Background: Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) is transport cholesterol particles and one of risk factor of stroke. Elevated levels of LDL in the blood would accumulate in the tunica intima blood vessel and then will form atheroma plaque and initiate the process of atherosclerosis. Incidence of both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke are closely related to atherosclerosis. This study aimed to know the difference of LDL in ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Method: An observational analytical research was done on stroke patients were hospitalized in the Dr. M. Djamil Padang Hospital with “cross sectional” design using medical records data. Any three variables used in this research, there are : ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and LDL levels. Result: The results of 122 patients with ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke in 87 patients obtained an average LDL levels ischemic stroke 143 ± 53.5 and 125.7 ± 39.5 hemorrhagic stroke. From the test results of calculations using independent sample t-test showed p = 0.01 (p <0.05). From analytic result with independent t-test is get p value 0,01 (p<0,05). Conclusion: LDL levels in hemorrhagic stroke was lower than ischemic stroke and this difference was statistically significant. Keyword: Ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, LDL
