  • This study was about teaching writing recount text for the eight grade students of junior high school. The aims of the study were: (1) to know the teaching writing recount text taught in SMP N 10 Medan, (2) to find out the reasons why the teacher did her way in teaching writing recout text. The research design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The Data were taken from an Eighth grade teacher of SMP N 10 Medan. The data were collected in three ways, such as observing, documentation and interviewing. The data were analyzed based on Miles and Huberman (1984), data condensation, data display and verification. The results of the study were the following: The stages of teaching writing recount text in classroom of Junior High School at grade 8, consist of used by English teacher at eighth grade in SMP N 10 Medan. They were (a)pre-teaching activities which consist of preparation and introducing the topic, (b)whilst-teaching activities such as asking students’ background knowledge about the topic, asking the students to watch the learning video, elaborating and explaining the content about the material, giving some questiong related to the video, discussion the example of recount text, and recalling students’ knowledge about recount text, (c)post-teaching activities which consist of giving the task to the students, giving the remedial, and concluding the lesson. And in teaching writing recount text, the teacher also informing to the students about the content of recount text such as, the definition of recount text, the social function of recount text, the language features of recount text and also the generic structure of recount text. (2) the underlying reasons of teacher’s ways were teacher believed that the ways she did in teaching and learning process will help the teaching process could runs well.
