Fiki Naki’s Subtitling Strategies in YouTube Channel

- The objective of this study were to find out 1) the type of subtitle strategy applied in the Fiki Youtube Channel and 2) the syntactical pattern of Indonesian subtitles translated from English phrases on the Fiki Youtube Channel. The data source for this research is one of Fiki's video which was uploaded on May 2, 2021 with the title “This German Girl Finally Surrendered, Says I LOVE YOU!! – OmeTV International” on his YouTube. This research was conducted in a qualitative descriptive manner. The data of this research are complete English phrase expressions with Indonesian subtitles that occurred in the video. Data were identified, analyzed and categorized based on Gottlieb's (1992) classification. The results of this study indicate that there were 8 subtitle strategies used on Fiki Naki's YouTube channel. The most frequently used strategy was the Paraphrase Strategy with a total of 38 (44.7%). Meanwhile, Transcription Strategy with a total use of 34 (40%), Expansion Strategy with a total use of 6 (7%), Imitation Strategy with a total use of 5 (5.88%), Condensation Strategy with a total use of 3 (3.52%) and Decimation Strategy with a total usage of 2 (2.35%). The strategy that is rarely found is the Deletion Strategy with a total use of 1 (1, 17%) while the Dislocation and Resignation strategy were not found. There were 8 syntactical patterns found in this study, namely Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Adverb, Verb, and Particle while there was one new finding name Emoticon.
