The purpose of this study was to find the types of Satire in Umpama of batak toba. And to find the dominant type also explaining the meaning of the Umpama and the appropriate moments to using the Umpama. Based on Alviani Theory (2017) there are 5 types of Satire, They are Irony, cynicism, sarcasm, satire, Innuendo. This study focused on the umpama From Batak Toba Tribe. This study used the qualitative method to solve the problems. The data of this study were 82 umpama taken from the book of umpama of Batak Toba and proverb that usually used or found in Batak tobanese conversation. For collecting the data this study used the analysis. Analysis technique used which were identifying, classifying, describing and explaining. The finding of this study are umpama had all the types of Satire and the most dominant are the satire that used phrases in expressing it percentage following by Irony, Cynicism,satire, Sarcasm, and Innuendo.
