  • The objectives of this study were to find out the elements of transitivity system used in students’ recount text and to identify the elements of transitivity system realized in students’ recount text. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this study was students’ writing of Recount text from tenth grade of Social class tertiary school in Medan. The data were collected by using documentary technique. Documentary involved the use of students’ writing of recount text. From the research, it was found in all units of students’ recount text there were 286 clauses. In these clauses, all process types can be found with varieties of the usage, they were: Material process, Relational process, Mental process, Verbal process, Existential process and behavioral process. For the participant, almost all of the participants can be found in students recount text except the Range, they were: Actor, Goal, Senser, Phenomenon, Token, Value, Carrier, Attribute, Possessor, Possessed, Behaver, Sayer, Verbiage, Existent, Beneficiary and Target. Related to the circumstance, there were seven circumstances found in students’ recount text except Contingency and Angle, they were: Extent, Location, Manner, Cause, Accompaniment, Role and Matter. The realization of transitivity system were found with varieties of the usage in constructing the language features of recount text. The processes were realized by actions, activities, or doing something. While the participants were realized by personal pronoun, direct and indirect object. And the circumstances were realized by prepositional phrase and adverbial phrase.
