Thematic Structures of the Reading Text of the Junior High School’s State Examination

- This study aimed to analyze thematic structures of the reading text of the Junior High School’s State Examination. It was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The analysis of this study is supported by the references of library research. The data of this research are the clauses of reading text of State Examination. The data source is one of twenty packages of English State Examination of the Junior High School 2017. There are sixteen reading texts in the package. The researcher only focused on thirteen reading texts as the data. Then, the results show that the most dominant type of theme which is used in reading text of the Junior High School’s State Examination is topical theme with 149 clauses or 65.1%. The most dominant type of theme based on markedness is unmarked theme with 133 clauses or 76%. The most dominant type of theme based on intersection of markedness and complexity theme, it is Unmarked Simple Theme with 106 clauses or 61%. The reason why thematic structure is used in reading text of the Junior High School’s State Examination to make the students get information of the reading text of State Examination 2017 more easily.
