Attitudinal Appraisal in Ahok’s Speech

- This research deals with Attitudinal Appraisal in Ahok’s speech. The objectives of this research were: 1) to investigate the types of attitudinal appraisal in Ahok’s speech, 2) to describe realization of attitudinal appraisal in Ahok’s speech, and 3) to explain reasons for the use of attitudinal appraisal in Ahok’s speech. This research was conducted in descriptive qualitative research. The data were obtained from Ahok’s speech, there were 99 clauses consisting of attitudinal appraisal in Ahok’s speech in Kepulauan Seribu and the source of data were taken from taken from youtube video www.youtube.com. The instrument of data used for the collecting the data was the observation by recorded the utterances of Ahok. The data were analyzed through interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The finding showed that: 1) three types of attitudinal appraisal used in Ahok speech included of Positive Affect 46 (41.4%), Negative Affect 14 (12.6%), Positive Judgment 10(9.1%), Negative Judgment 17(15.3%), Positive Appreciation 12(10.8%) and Negative Appreciation 12(12.8%). It means that the using of positive affect was dominated the clauses of the speech. 2) Realization of attitudinal appraisal in Ahok’s speech, namely words, phrases and clauses and it was found derivational repetition in realizing attitudinal appraisal in Ahok speech. 3) The reasons for the use of attitudinal appraisal in Ahok’s speech divided formality, status, affect and contact. Formality: formal, Status: unequal, Affect: positive affect and Contact: Infrequent. In this study, indicated using of modality to express the probability speaker’s desire about Ahok’s program and the new finding that found was derivational repetition as new finding in realizing attitudinal appraisal in Kepulauan Seribu.
