  • This study was aimed at finding out the types of illocutionary acts used by the main character, Sherlock Holmes and the interpretation of the dominant type of illocutionary acts occured. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data were the 363 clauses of the dialogue of Sherlock Holmes, as the main character uttered. The result of the research showed that Holmes tent to use representatives of illocutionary acts (59.78%), Directives (29.48%), Expressives (6.61%), Commisives (3.86%), and Declaratives (0.27%). The most dominant type of illocutionary acts was representatives because the main character played as Detective where along his job he tried to describe the situation and his thought through the investigation.
